The projects listed on this page are some of Jeff's projects which he no longer maintains. Some of the projects have outlived their usefulness; while others have been superceded by other products. If you would like the source code to any of these projects, please contact Jeff.

Some of the projects below have received accolades. Windows Restart was rated 5-stars on a popular Ziff-Davis download site, and Windows Restart and StratoMin were listed among PC/Computing magazine's list of 1,001 Best Internet Downloads in 1996.

Windows Restart 2000 (312K)

Windows Restart 2000 puts you in charge. No longer will you have to wade through levels of menus to find the Windows system command that you in need: instead, Windows Restart 2000 will allow you to create shortcut keys and taskbar icons to provides quick access to a number of commonly used Windows commands such as: shut down Windows, restart Windows, log off, eject CD-ROM, invoke the screen saver, clear the documents menu, open the My Computer folder, and many more. In addition, Windows Restart 2000 provides a command-line interface to these commands so you can create timed events using the Windows Task Scheduler. Windows Restart 2000 also allows you to create a taskbar icon or shortcut key to enable or disable the screen saver. Compatible with Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP.

StratoSetup (200K)

Installation program for Windows applications. It checks version information to install system files and can create Start Menu shortcuts. The newest version is much more powerful than previous versions. Current version is 1.78. Compatible with Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP.

Stratoware ControlLinks 97 (43K)

Stratoware ControlLinks 97 creates shortcuts to Windows' control folders. When a link is placed on the Start menu it will cascade out like a normal Programs folder. Compatable with Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP.

StratoMin (36K)

StratoMin is a Windows program that allows the user to define a hot key that when pressed minimized all active windows.

Windows Restart for Windows 3.1 (76K)

Windows Restart for Windows 3.1 allows you to quickly exit, restart, or reboot Windows from an icon in Program Manager or on the desktop. Windows Restart installs a Control Panel applet to configure Windows Restart. Windows Restart can be configured using Control Panel settings or command line parameters. Included with Windows Restart 3.1 is DOSer. DOSer allows you to exit Windows, run a specified application, and then restart Windows. This is useful if you need to run a program that is incompatible with Windows from within Windows.

Story Twister for Windows (110 KB)

One of Jeff's earliest programs; Story Twister is a mad libs-like game for Windows 3.1.

Monkey's Eyebrow (16K)

An add-in for the old Renegade BBS software. Scans a user's mailbox for personal email.

IGMs for the Legend of the Red Dragon

[Power Lottery (47K)] [Sell Your Soul (46K)]
These are "in-game modules" developed for the old BBS door game, The Legend of the Red Dragon.

CRSTRIP (9K)

Removes carriage return characters from text files. Effectively converts files from MS-DOS text files to Unix text files.

OENewsProxy

OENewsProxy is a simple program designed to fix some of the problems Outlook Express has with posting to Usenet news servers. Among these problems are broken "sigdashes," trailing blank lines, and broken quote wrapping. OENewsProxy works by creating a proxy server that sits between Outlook Express and your news server. Outlook Express connects to OENewsProxy which in turn connects to your news server. Most communication between Outlook Express and your news server passes through OENewsProxy unchanged; however, when OENewsProxy sees that you are posting a message, it will examine the message and fix Outlook Expressí problems in the message.

What is Stratoware?

Some of Jeff's older projects are marked as being by or from Stratoware. Stratoware and Perplexic Software were names chosen by Jeff and his friend David Raney for companies that never got much beyond the drawing board. If you find software marked as being by Stratoware or Perplexic Software, it was likely written by Jeff.

Jeff has completed a major reorganization of his web space. This reorganization involved the moving of WebCam2000 to its own domain and the withering of the Stratoware.com domain. A couple of things have also been removed from TheBadPlace.com. For instance, Jeff's archive of school papers is no longer online.

StratoSetup and Windows Restart have also been downgraded to the status of "no longer actively maintained." Jeff might still update them in the future, but he has no plans to do so at this time.

The main part of Jeff's web space is now generated using new site management software. The software is a distant cousin of the software used to create Jeff's KentuckyRoads.com web site. This version of the software uses a collection of Perl scripts to build static HTML pages based on a MySQL database. Jeff plans to test the software, do some refactoring, and release the software at some point in the future.

One of the new features of the site is the ability to comment on "news items" such as this one. See the "view/post comments" link below for more information.

As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns about Jeff's website, feel free to contact him.
